LGJS Review 2023 - 2024

REVIEW Leicester Grammar Junior School 2023 - 2024

At Leicester Grammar Junior School, our school values underpin all that we aspire to achieve. Whether inside the classroom, up in the music department, down in the laboratory or out on the playground, we are working hard to become the very best version of ourselves, bringing out the very best in others. Curiosity is the spark that ignites the flame of learning in all children. At LGJS, this natural inquisitiveness can lead to remarkable discoveries and a lifelong passion for knowledge. When we ask questions, we look to seek answers and also to learn to think critically and independently. We love problem-solving, finding out and making connections! When we are curious, we open up a realm of understanding, turning our classrooms into a vibrant space where ideas flourish – along with our plants - and our imaginations soar. In our Review this year, you will see some of these ‘lightbulb’ moments captured and recorded and you will read about how the journey of ‘finding out’ is never quite over! 42 Head Girl Maqsooda Arif My time at the LGJS was 7 years, but it seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. I had so many opportunities as part of the Junior School with music, sports and art. The lessons in science and English were so enthralling and stimulating at the same time (always with an exciting twist!). Thank you to all of my incredible teachers for keeping me safe, keeping me smart and best of all, keeping me happy! Good luck to next year’s Head Girl - I’m sure you deserve it! I hope you cherish every moment and enjoy it as much as I have! WWW.LGS-JUNIOR.ORG.UK

Head Boy Charlie Hardwicke Being head boy has been brilliant. I was a bit nervous when I first found out but I was excited about the year ahead and it has turned out better than I could have hoped! I’ve loved the challenges and the opportunity to be involved with activities across the school – from the festive fun of narrating the Kinders & Reception nativity, to the respectful laying of the wreath on Remembrance Day and the atmospheric readings in the candlelit cathedral at Christingle, I’ve been proud to take part in some of the most memorable moments of the LGJS calendar. It’s also been my last year at LGJS, having joined in Kinders. Highlights of this year have been our trip to France (and particularly the yummy snails!), the excitement of representing the school with my rugby teammates at Rosslyn Park Sevens and the Year 6 triathlon – I will never forget having the whole school cheering our names as we went round the course. I will remember my time at LGJS with a smile – class assemblies, whole school celebrations, Sports Week, trips in the minibus, great teachers and fabulous friends. Good luck to all of next year’s Year 6 – enjoy yourselves, it will fly by! Leavers Henry Harrison I am feeling incredibly sad as I write this after four wonderful years at Leicester Grammar Junior School. Changes can be subtle or obvious. During my time here, we have experienced both types of changes, and I am very proud to have been a part of a school that continues to inspire and support its staff to provide the best education for our students. With a new staff in the department, and plenty of innovation, we have seen positive results. Our students feel empowered on the sports field, are confident to succeed, and, most importantly, understand that sports can drive their success in all aspects of life. I have been proud of many things, from reaching national finals to hosting festivals and giving high-fives to all the Kindergarten students as I walk past them in the corridor. I am forever thankful to LGJS, as my two children, William and Thea, have flourished here with me. They are sad to be leaving. Our next step in our adventure is Bilton Grange in Rugby, but don’t worry, you’ll still see me at fixtures and visits, I am sure. 45 LEICESTER GRAMMAR JUNIOR SCHOOL 2023 - 2024
